Rotating Equipment Mechanical Engineer

Position Purpose
The Rotating Equipment Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise for rotating equipment across the plant, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation in compliance with international codes and Methanex standards. The role delivers high-quality engineering solutions, supports plant improvement projects, provides technical guidance to Operations and Maintenance, and leads technical investigations and root cause failure analysis for critical rotating equipment.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Deliver rotating equipment engineering deliverables in line with safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Develop scopes of work for rotating equipment projects and MOCs, including engineering studies, FEED, detailed design, cost estimates, purchase specifications, and construction packages.
- Ensure compliance with international codes and standards (API, ASME, ANSI, PIP) and Methanex engineering procedures.
- Provide technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Process, and Responsible Care teams on rotating equipment issues.
- Lead condition-based monitoring (CBM) activities for critical turbomachinery, including performance evaluation and timely recommendations.
- Utilize System1 for machinery health monitoring and interpret vibration and performance plots (Orbit, Bode, Polar, Spectrum, etc.).
- Support safety studies (HAZOP, LOPA, Bowties) as a rotating equipment subject matter expert.
- Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and technical investigations for major rotating equipment failures.
- Identify rotating equipment reliability and vulnerability issues and develop engineering solutions to improve plant reliability.
- Support tendering, contract award, construction, and commissioning phases of assigned projects.
- Propose equipment operation and design improvements to enhance plant efficiency and reduce CO₂ footprint.
- Coach and develop junior engineers and mechanical graduates.
- Share lessons learned and best practices with global Methanex teams to support equipment integrity across sites.
